Barre Body Fit

This class is taught by:

Elissa Jamieson

Name: Elissa Jamieson

Hometown: Edmonton, AB

Why do you barre so hard?
I love barre because it makes me feel strong and pretty! Plus it keeps my body in great shape.

What is your guilty pleasure?
Popcorn! I could eat a bowl of popcorn everynight. My favorite toppings right now are olive oil, sea salt and dill.

Why do you barre so hard?

I love barre simply because it is SO much fun! I started ballet at 2 ½ and
being at the barre takes me back to the fun days of dancing at the studio! The
energy at the studio is always addicting and I love how each class is different
and challenging.

If you had to choose 3 words to describe yourself, what would they be?

Compassionate, Attentive, & Fiery (I’m a ginger!)

Why do you barre so hard?

For the beats, the motivation, and the connection to one’s body. There
is nothing like hearing that beat drop when you go into that combo
movement and you whisper to yourself, “You got this…” (or is that just
me?) The barre community here is so welcoming, inspiring, and
empowering. Barre has pushed me further in my physical and mental
state. If I push myself to hold that squeeze just a little longer at the
barre, I can push myself to do a lot more!

Tell us something that we don’t know about you!

I’m a tap dancer! I’ve grown up tap dancing unofficially since I was 2
(thanks to my sis) and officially when I was 4! That’s why I love music
that has a good beat to it. It’s instinctual for me groove out to that kind of music.

Jaime Turnbull

Name: Jaime Turnbull

Hometown: Fort McMurray, AB

Why do you barre so hard?
I love barre because it is an energizing workout that never feels “routine” since and every class is slightly different. It also never gets to be too easy – the stronger you get, the more you can challenge your body. Each instructor brings their own personal flare to the class which makes it even more fun! I have noticed great improvement in my balance, flexibility*, and strength since I started. *I am still very inflexible…just MORE flexible than before.

Favourite way to treat yourself?
If I really need to unwind there is nothing better than a glass of wine, a good book, and a warm bubble bath.

Charlotte Martin

Name: Charlotte Martin

Hometown: Edmonton, AB

Why do you barre so hard?
Barre became my favourite work out almost instantly after my first class. It makes me feel graceful (most of the time), I am challenged every class, the music is great, the results are quick and the barre community is amazing. It's a work out that I never dread going to so I find it easy to motivate myself and I love the healthy lifestyle that goes hand in hand with barre.

If you had to choose 3 words to describe yourself, what would they be?
I know this is probably cheating but I went for a job interview once and they asked me the same question and my answer was “happy, friendly...and I don’t know, I’m just really happy.” Honestly, I was too nervous and couldn’t think of another word at the time, but whoever was interviewing me took it as me just being double happy and hired me anyways so I’m sticking to it.

Hometown: Devon, AB

Why do you barre so hard?

I barre so hard because no matter how many classes I come to, I can
never predict what the instructor is going to bring, and I can always find
something in my form, or my effort that needs improvement. I also love
barre because of the community. The clients, and the staff are second to
none, and the studio has definitely become a place of comfort and solace
in my crazy life.

 Favorite way to treat yourself?

Lush bath bombs with a bottle sized glass of wine

Megan Clark

Name: Megan Clark

Hometown: Edmonton, AB

Why do you barre so hard?
To feel strong and healthy. Barre has totally changed my life! I love the ladies I work with everyday, the community we have built and of course that burn that only barre delivers.

What is the best “side effect” you have noticed from barre?
Strength and endurance! I am constantly amazed at my ability with new activities and workouts.

Erika Persson

Name: Erika Persson

Hometown: Morinville, AB

Why do you barre so hard?
I love barre because of that sweet burn that I have a love hate relationship with and the great workout environment. The music and energy the
barrestars bring to each class keeps me a barre addict for life :)

What is your guilty pleasure?
Reality TV – from So You Think You Can Dance to the Bachelor and all that comes in between – I love it and set my PVR to record when I’m away.

Kendra Chow

Name: Kendra Chow

Why do you barre so hard?
Because why not? I’ve always been a very ‘Challenge Accepted!’ kind of gal, and I love barre for the physical, mental, and endurance challenges it provides. Barre is
stimulating in so many ways! It brought me back to my dancer body and mind, and it
feels so good to be in a position of pursuit again.

What is your favourite quote?
"Though her manner varied ... her determination never did." - Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice

"If not me, who? If not now, when?" - Emma Watson, addressing the UN General Assembly for HeForShe

Kristin G Gibson

Name: Kristin Gibson

Hometown: Castor, AB

Why do you barre so hard?
Barre makes me feel strong, clears my head and gives me the energy to keep up with my busy 3 year old.

What is a secret talent of yours?
I can touch my tongue to my nose. I also bake, knit, embroider, and do paper cut illustrations.

Kirsten Tullis

Name: Kirsten Tullis

Hometown: Durban, South Africa

Why do you barre so hard?
I barre so hard for the results. I love the endorphins and the positive attitude I leave the class with. I love what barre has done to my body. I love the fact I need to go out and buy a bigger pair of jeans to fit my butt, and a smaller top to fit my waist.

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what would you bring with you?
Sun cream, a great book, rum and coke in a giant cooler.
One-hour of strength and flexibility training choreographed to music while incorporating the use of a ballet barre. A more basic approach to Barre Body Fit classes but equally as challenging.
