DANCE EXPERIENCE: I did ballet when I was a kid but I’ve always hated when things get competitive, so I switched to music-enhanced workouts when I was a teenager!

Why do you barre so hard? Having danced growing up I missed the studio vibe and classical movements of ballet when working out. I have always made a point of being active but getting to the gym sometimes felt like a chore. The combination of dance, pilates and yoga inspired moves set to upbeat music is the perfect balance between form, function and fun. The workout is low impact yet effective and I know if I am a little sore the next day I have had a good workout. Exercising isn’t a chore anymore and look forward to the days when I can hit the studio.
Enjoy the little things – what little things make you smile? My little guy Jack. He is always full of smiles and makes me laugh all the time. Watching him grow is the best thing ever. I also have a dog named Charlie. He is a black Goldendoodle, otherwise known as the happiest furry teddy bear around.

FAVORITE FOOD/DRINK: I love anything except bacon, olives and mayo; Hawaiian Pizza with Cake Batter Froyo for dessert is pretty hard to beat though Drink: Peach flavoured Perrier

YOUR B BODY: Working out for the last glass of vino in the bottle. Our studio is the best audience for my audacious sense of humour. Let’s face it, barre is a little dirty. I keep coming back though, the internal satisfaction of knowing I worked hard, challenged myself, and had enough influence on our clients, their day, their mood, to have them smile or focus so hard on an excercise and watch them flourish and strengthen.
DANCE EXPERIENCE: Since in utero! I’ve always moved to the music, or danced to the beat of my own drum. Ballet since I was a wee sprite of 5 years. Modern contemporary since I was a teenager.
FAVORITE CHILDHOOD FASHION FAD: Welly boots! Or as the Canadians call them rubber boots. I had one in almost every colour as a child! I’d wear them with shorts, dresses, skirts. Basically with anything, including fancy dress. I currently own 3 pairs!
CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT: Adventure, travel plans, lists (lists for everything—post-its for barre). Chocolate.. well I could but you might not want to talk to me as I can turn into the grinch
FAVORITE FOOD/DRINK: Sauvignon blanc— New Zealand my fav! Bubbly!! The real kind. Truffle fries ( but only after I’ve done a double barre class). Chocolate isn’t a favourite, it’s actually necessity
CURRENT HOBBIES: Barre, dance, outdoors in any capacity, reading.

YOUR B BODY: I love how barre has made my body feel strong, capable, and confident. It is up for any challenge that life throws my way. I have also gained mental stamina to push through the barre burn/shakes which is such a rewarding feeling.
DANCE EXPERIENCE: I danced for many years when I was younger growing up in Fort McMurray - all styles (tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop, etc). I also instructed tap and jazz classes for younger children before I came to Edmonton for university.
FAVORITE CHILDHOOD FASHION FAD: I was a big fan of platform shoes and excessive amounts of sparkly white eye shadow. In hindsight this was not such a good look
CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT: pizza and wine!
FAVORITE FOOD/DRINK: as above. And I also love sour candies.
CURRENT HOBBIES: Hiking, running, snowshoeing, traveling, and spending time at the barre studio with the lovely staff and clients.
OCCUPATION: Hospital Pharmacist
YOUR B BODY: My barre body has helped me overcome injuries allowing me to be a functional being again. It also lets me keep an excellent amount of pasta and beer in my life!
DANCE EXPERIENCE: 20+ years as a tap dancer, dabbling in jazz for many years as well.
FAVORITE CHILDHOOD FASHION FAD: The forever coordinating outfits my sister and I had - track suits, dresses, jackets.
CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT: My beats! Music fuels my soul.
FAVORITE FOOD/DRINK: Dumplings... coffee... breakfast foods... basically if you ever ask me if I'm hungry, the answer is 'always'.
CURRENT HOBBIES: Golfing, checking out the local food scene, listening to podcasts, baking, boxing, and the occasional netflix binge.

YOUR B BODY: My barre/bounce body is a powerhouse, it literally carries me through each & every day - from work, to workouts, to running errands and meeting up with friends. I workout so that I can keep my body healthy & happy. Not only does working out give me the strength to participate in numerous activities (like obstacle course runs, which I love!!), but it also gives me the strength to power through day to day activities (like groceries and HAVING to take them all inside in one trip). Working out also not only nourishes my physical body, but also my mind - every workout is like a mental reset, giving me more clarity and energy to take on the rest of the day. Oh.. and I like nachos... and ice cream, like A LOT, so I also work out because of that.
DANCE EXPERIENCE: Does dancing on ice count!? I was a figure skater for 15 years, doing both singles skating & synchronized skating.
FAVORITE CHILDHOOD FASHION FAD: Buffalo (platform) shoes, carefully paired with a skirt overtop of pants & topped off with some butterfly clips (thank you Spice Girls)

I love barre because it continues to challenge me! I love how each week I feel stronger and can barre harder than the last, but I also can always challenge myself to be stronger, hold longer, sink deeper. I love that it is a mental practice just as much as a physical workout. When I’m at barre I can’t worry about my day to day stresses, I can only focus on myself, in the moment. I find that very meditative.
